Ranikhet - The majestic Beauty by Flin Martyn
Ranikhet literally means Queen's Meadow; it is a beautiful hill station sitting among the pristine surroundings of Uttarakhand. The region is set at an altitude of 1869m above sea level in the Almora district of Uttarakhand. Ranikhet has an interesting history to it, which is Queen Padmini of Kumaon fell in love with the region so much so that the king Sudhardev built her palace among the picturesque locales of the region and named it Ranikhet or Queen's Field. The hill station has also served as a summer retreat and headquarters of the Kumaon regiment under the British regime.

The nearest airport is located in Pant Nagar located 112 km away, however the frequencies of flights are few and too far between, while the nearest railhead is in Kathgodam located 85 km away, an alternative to it is the Ramnagar railway station located at a distance of 96 km. lastly there are regular bus and taxi services available that offer the much needed road connectivity to the region.
