Arowana Care - Tips For Breeding Asian Arowanas by Robert Khaw
In the past, we have seen many individuals who take interest in breeding Asian Arowanas for commercial purposes. They choose this freshwater fish among other Arowanas because so far this has the greatest commercial value especially the golden crossback, the red and red tail golden Arowanas (RTGs). These three can fetch the highest values in the world market because the Chinese believe in their ability to bring good luck to their businesses. Subsequently, as the Chinese became more affluent with their businesses, the demand for Asian Arowanas continue to become higher.
However, there are problems with Arowana care and when breeding Asian Arowanas because they are choosy with their breeding environment. So far only few countries in Asia are successful in breeding them. These are Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. 1. Asian Arowanas in order to be able to breed need lots of wide spaces and the proper Arowana care. Since you will be venturing on them for business purposes you will require having many ponds and breed a minimum of 20-40 adults. Of these numbers some of them must be in their breeding ages. You need to have breeders so that if some of the adults die you have a new generation of fish to count on.
2. As with the breeding and proper Arowana care, you need a sharp eye to spot adults that are capable of pairing and mating. You also have to know which male or female are already matured for breeding. Asian male Arowanas carry their fries inside their mouths so you have to spot them well to know when would be the right time to harvest these fries.
3. Asian Arowanas are very picky with their environment before they will breed with very specific Arowana care requirements. If you live in a country that has extreme weather conditions this is one thing you have to deal about and can be your possible risk if you cannot control their environment according to their preference. They also want the right climate and optimal mix of water and soil in their mud ponds which they need while they breed.
So far, these are the best advices you can have in breeding the precious Asian Arowana fish. They are picky all right so you have to bear the consequences. If you will be successful in breeding them, they will be like gold mine to you anyway. Arowana feeding is not much of a problem because Asian Arowanas are not choosy with their foods but they would be healthier if you give them live foods and sustain them with vitamins.
